Digital Communications Assistant (GS-5)


Principal Functions

Under supervision of the Digital Communications Officer, assist with the maintenance of OPCW’s digital properties, including the OPCW website and social media channels in order to promote the positive image of the OPCW and increase the awareness and understanding of the CWC for an expanding digital audience.

Social Media

  1. Perform routine daily management of the Organisation’s social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn;
  2. Draft succinct editorial content with graphic elements for social media to support corporate communications campaigns in accessible language;
  3. Assist with the planning and scheduling of social media campaigns to support outreach activities;
  4. Work with colleagues across the Organisation to encourage consistent application of OPCW outreach messaging;
  5. Keep informed of industry trends and regularly propose ideas on how to improve the OPCW’s social media presence.

Website

  1. Update and maintain webpages on the OPCW website using the Drupal content management system;
  2. Build or re-designs sections of the website based on individual Branch requests and build new special sections when identified;
  3. Adapt text for the web, ensuring that writing is in a succinct, accessible, and consistent voice;
  4. Assist with the creation of graphics;
  5. Coordinate formatting and posting of news releases on the website and schedule e-newsletter distribution to mailing lists.

Monitoring and Promotion

  1. Create monthly analytics report on website traffic and social media engagement;
  2. Assists in the preparation of standardised documentation and procedures relating to OPCW web practices;
  3. Keeps abreast of the latest developments in the field of web design and social media communications.   

Knowledge and Experience

Education

Essential

High School diploma or equivalent diploma of higher secondary education.


Desirable

Formal training and/or courses on digital communications, including website design and social media management.

Experience

Essential 

  1. At least 4 years of experience and at least 2 years of experience in a similar role, including website and social media management;
  2. Experience managing corporate websites including planning content, writing, preparing and uploading content, and using a content management system;
  3. Excellent knowledge of the corporate use of social media;
  4. Experience with social media monitoring tools;
  5. Strong writing, copyediting and proofreading skills with the ability to make complex information accessible;
  6. Experience using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign;
  7. Knowledge of basic HTML, CSS, and information architecture.

Desirable 

  1. Knowledge of best practices in Search Engine Optimisation (SEO);
  2. Experience using the Drupal Content Management System;
  3. Experience in video editing;
  4. Experience using collaborative platforms (e.g., SharePoint);
  5. Experience with live-streaming platforms (e.g. YouTube Live, ConnectedViews);
  6. Basic knowledge of the Chemical Weapons Convention.

Language Requirements

Fluency in English is essential and a good working knowledge of one of the other official languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is desirable.
