Responsibilities

Job Summary

Declaration Validation and Evaluation Section (DVE) processes declarations under Article III and Article VI of the CWC. This includes input and validation of declarations data into the Verification Information System (VIS) and evaluation of the declarations. DVE is also responsible for processing declaration-related information and amendments to ensure that complete and up-to-date information is available for verification purposes. While declarations under Article III are received throughout the year, there are two main periods for submission of declarations under Article VI. The Annual Declarations on Past Activities (ADPAs), which are due by 31 March and Annual Declarations on Anticipated Activities (ADAAs), which are due by 2 October and 1 November each year.

The Senior Data Processing Assistant will therefore mainly support the processing of ADAAs and any other declaration-related information and amendments. The assigned activities will include input and validation of declarations and amendments, processing of declaration-related information, preparing unofficial translations, if applicable, and support data analysis and reporting.

 

This is a Temporary Vacancy Announcement and the duration of the contract will be four months from 1 September to 31 December 2025. 

Main Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Head, Declarations Validation and Evaluation Section of the Declarations Branch, the incumbent will be performing the following duties:

  • Input and validate Article VI declarations into the Verification Information System (VIS);
  • Assist in the input and validation of all Article III submissions and identify issues for clarification;
  • Prepare unofficial translations of declarations and verification related information (another official language into English);
  • Assist in the preparation of annual reports, briefings, requests for clarification for approval by Head of Section;
  • Assist in the analysis of declarations and the preparation of associated ad hoc reports and papers for internal use within the OPCW or release to States Parties;
  • Carry out any other clerical duties as required and assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

Education

Essential:

High school diploma or equivalent diploma of higher secondary education.

 

Desirable:

Additional training or courses in the field of information technology or chemistry; knowledge of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) and its declaration requirements.

Knowledge and Experience

  • At least four years of related experience in the use of electronic data management systems gained in international organizations, governmental agencies or the private sector with a strong focus on data entry and validation;
  • Experience working in a UN related organisation is desirable.

Skills and Competencies

  • Computer literacy: Significant skill in using computers is essential with especial emphasis on the knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) and Data Management Systems;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Good planning and organisational skills;
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Flexibility and the ability to work independently using initiative to resolve problems;
  • Tact, accuracy, discretion and ability to work harmoniously in a multi-cultural environment and create a positive and productive team environment.

Languages

Fluency in English is essential and a good working knowledge of one of the other official languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is desirable.
